NOTE: This job requires average skill on electronics soldering, but it doesn’t require skills on electronics. You may always bring the computer, the new chip and these instructions to any TV or electronics shop so they can install the chip, then you just install back the computers in your car. Also, all connections should be verified before and after soldering the socket. Take care not to jump connections with soldering or brake circuit traces by over heating. Notice that there are connections above, bellow and inside the circuit board (multi-layered) that are sensitive to too much heat. Always clean the finished job with a mild solvent like alcohol
Start our by locating the engine computer, located above the foot well area of the driver’s side and pulling it our by removing the attaching bolts and carefully pulling out the connection harnesses (See drawing bellow for computer location)..
Once the computer is our, remove the top cover by taking out the 4 long screws securing it. Then, remove the 6 screws that hold the top circuit board.
CAREFULLY flip the top board back. A flexible ribbon is attached to this board, so take precautions not to break it while flipping the board On that same board, you will find the stock chip ("EPROM") to be replaced. You will easily identity it because it has a silver label over it with markings like "SKBA103", "SKBA104", "SKBA105", etc. At this moment, you should take note of where the pin #1 of that chip is aimed, since you must aim the pin #1 of the new chip the same way. Pin Si is identified with a small notch on the chip itself, so the notch of the new chip MUST face the same direction.
Carefully unsolder the chip and solder the included socket in its place and then just insert the chip in the socket by aligning its pins on the socket holes and after making sure that all of the pins of the chip are in place, secure the chip by firmly pushing it down
Put back the board and the computer top cover and then re install the computer in the car. Make sure that the connection harnesses snaps in place on the computer connector.
The chip to be replaced
is the one with a grey
label over It usually
marked as "SKBA103".
“SKBA104”, “SKBA105”
etc.
Now yon are ready to enjoy a new and more powerful car!
We know that once you test this chip, you won't want to
drive your car without it ever again.
